Guide

Prepare a shed for a move

A hauler can price faster when the request answers six things: how big the floor is, where it is, where it is going, about how many miles, what is in the way, and whether the building is empty. You do not need a perfect survey. You need honest photos.

Measure the floor

Width and length of the floor, not the roof overhang. An 8×12 with a foot of overhang is not a 10-wide building, but the overhang still counts when the load is measured for the road. If you know the wall height, add it. The trailer deck adds more height on a road move.

Empty it

Take out tools, water, lawn equipment, and anything that can shift. A hauler may move a shed with a few light shelves still in it. Furniture and liquids are a risk you keep if they punch through the floor. If it cannot be emptied, say so before they roll.

Clear a path, and show it

  • Photograph the shed from the corner, the gate or the side yard, and anything overhead.
  • Note a gate under about 10 feet, a steep slope, or soft ground after rain.
  • Low power lines and branches are the hauler’s problem to judge, and they need to see them.
  • At the destination, the pad should be level enough and dry enough to set the building. Say if it is not built yet.

Before anyone sets new anchors or piers, the site needs a utility locate. That is a call to 811 or the local equivalent, made by whoever is putting posts in the ground. Shed Movers does not schedule it.
